A marvellous opportunity – the workshop enabled students to explore their latent creativity in such an enjoyable way.

A real highlight of the year!”

NEW LETTERS

The 2017 Competition

As well as commissioning new Edna letters, in 2017 Emma Parker and Chris Shepherd launched a national creative writing competition that invited sixth form, college and university students to embody the spirit of Edna and pen a satirical letter in honour of Joe Orton.

The competition asked, ‘If Joe Orton were alive today, who or what would be the object of his satire?’

Students from Beaumont College, English Martyrs’ Sixth Form College, Leicester College, Melton Vale Post 16 Centre, Robert Smyth Academy and Wyggeston and Queen Elizabeth I College attended a creative writing workshop at the University of Leicester.

The competition was judged by Joe Orton’s sister Leonie Orton, Emma Parker and Chris Shepherd.
